Getting there is easier than ever, with British Airways now offering direct flights to New Orleans and Nashville. Their service to Nashville starts in May this year and if you fancy being on the first flight let Just Journey know and they can make it happen!

The major cities of Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans each offer a vastly different experience to each other, but one theme is central to all and that is live music.

Nashville, known as ‘Music City’ is world famous for country music but there are lots of acts performing all over the city every night of various genres.  A night here can involve experiencing numerous up and coming bands and artists in the many music venues and bars that are found in downtown Nashville.

Then there is the Grand Ole Opry, founded back in 1925 it plays hosts to the biggest stars in Country Music and with weekly performances, it is a must do when in Nashville.

It is the Blues in Memphis and on Beale Street you can enjoy a night out in this lively area filled with several bars offering live music and a great atmosphere.  It is also the home of Graceland, Elvis Presley’s mansion and whether you are a fan or not a visit to this unique place is essential!

New Orleans is the home of jazz but you will also find a host of other types of live music on offer here.

World famous Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is one of the USA’s most colourful streets and is a great place to relax with a drink in a bar overlooking the action watching live music and the world go by.

As well as music, the food of this region is worth the trip alone. From Gumbo and Cajun delicacies in Louisiana to amazing BBQ in Tennessee, the best fried chicken you are likely to experience and fried green tomatoes (much better than they sound!) there are fantastic foods to enjoy.  And to wash it down, why not pop to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee!

Getting around the region is easy. You can focus on the main cities of Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans or rent a car to experience more of the region.

Driving here is straight forward and will enable you to get off the beaten path and visit some of the smaller towns, the amazing plantation homes in Mississippi and the swamps of Louisiana and the Great Smoky Mountains.

There are also tours of the region and for those looking for something a little different you can travel the region on a Mississippi steamboat.
