Are you interested in buying locally grown produce and supporting Derbyshire farmers? A company by the name of Twisted Turnip are making that easier than ever to do.

A Derby couple, Clare and Ian, recently launched a veg box scheme to help connect local people with local producers. The pair have both experienced first-hand the difficulty producers often have when dealing directly with big retailers and wanted to do something to help.

They set up Twisted Turnip to help support local, Derbyshire growers and to find a home for vegetable that don’t meet the strict cosmetic standards imposed by supermarkets. Their vegetable boxes contain vegetables of any shape and size and are grown within 15 miles of Derby City Centre.

The couple are passionate about ensuring farmers are paid fairly for their efforts and that their veg boxes are reasonably priced, starting at £4.50. Their also offer plenty of helpful recipe suggestions to help inspire their customers to make the most of the seasonal produce on offer.

Their boxes can be collected from a number of points in Derby, currently The Abbey Inn, Darley Abbey and The Wonky Table, Derby. “Working with The Abbey Inn and The Wonky Table has been fantastic and the enthusiasm and passion they have shown to support us is brilliant.”

“The company has been running for 8 weeks now and we’re really happy with the response we’ve had so far. It’s been great meeting lots of local people and to hear how pleased they are with the flavor and quality of the produce.”
