Sitting down and admiring Interiors Designed impeccable showroom and studio, Kate Stephenson, the owner and Interior Designer, showed me one of the projects she was currently working on.
A design board showcasing different images, fabrics, paints, wallcoverings and examples of room layout. Kate would soon be showing the board to her client, following their initial consultation meeting.
This particular client was interested in Interiors Designed unique selling point, an Interior Design Service for just £89 per room! If I’m being honest, I always thought that to hire an interior designer it would be quite pricey. However, it seems this is not the case here.
With this service, Interiors Designed offers, in addition to the design board, a specification sheet (which is a ‘shopping list’ to you and me) is produced so you can transform your chosen room in your own time and when cashflow allows.
As I sat chatting to Kate, she told me how her great new business was born. After raising a wonderful family alongside working, she decided “it was time for ME”! And there began her new chapter, with a background in sales and marketing, but a flair for interior design, Kate took a leap of faith in herself and went back to learning and enrolled at the National Design Academy where she later qualified as a Level 3 Professional Interior Designer.
Interiors Designed started in Kate’s office at her home. There she would handle and deal with all the business coming through, until she got to that great part that any entrepreneur is waiting for, where she needed some administrative support, and a bigger space.
Whilst arriving at her regular hair appointment at TopKnot, she came across the perfect premises where she could expand her business.
Visualising exactly how it would look within seconds, Kate knew it was fate and by the end of the week she had the keys to her shiny new showroom and studio.
Once her new business space was ready, it was time for Kate to hire her first member of staff. Jo, also a working Mum and a very well trusted friend of Kate’s, joined the team and they now make a fantastic duo, satisfying clients across all aspects of the business.
Kate’s main aim is to make interior design a service that’s accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. She understands that people’s homes should reflect their own style and personality and whilst Kate offers the advice and knowledge to make it happen, she is looking to provide an end result which suits the client and their preferences.
The vast range of suppliers that Interiors Designed work with, means they can offer a huge choice of fabrics for curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. As well as wallcoverings, lighting, flooring and furniture and again, all working within the client’s budget.
Kate and Jo are always pleased to welcome visitors to the studio and whilst we were there, several people dropped in to browse the showroom and look through some fabric and wallpaper books which are always available.
As we said our goodbyes to Kate and Jo, I asked for a ‘top tip’. Kate said, “Try and make a plan and stick to it – that way you should avoid costly mistakes in the long run”, Kate continued “From a design point of view, if you’re working with neutrals, which are very popular at the moment, remember to add interest using textures and tones. Layer up different fabrics with cushions and throws – this can really help to bring warmth and personality into a room”.
