With over 5,200 nominations received from the public, Marketing Derby has announced the finalists of the ninth annual Derby Food and Drink Awards.

The shortlist is based on the quality and quantity of the nominations, as well as the hygiene ratings and TripAdvisor reports. Each establishment will be visited by mystery judges, who will critique them on food, drinks, overall atmosphere and customer service.

Here at IN we’ve put our support behind the awards by sponsoring the Best Bar category. The finalists; Suds & Soda, The Orange Tree and The Palfrey really illustrate how much the city’s bar scene has blossomed over the past 12 months. Handily for us, they’re all within a short walk of IN HQ too!

The winners will be announced at the ceremony, to be held at The Roundhouse on Monday 9th October.

On the night, Marketing Derby will also present the Royal Crown Derby Outstanding Achievement award to a person that has made an significant contribution to Derby’s food and drink scene.

John Forkin, Managing Director of Marketing Derby, said: “Every year the number of nominations increases, and this year was our most difficult task, in whittling down from over 5,200 nominations into a shortlist. This year’s finalists reflect the diversity and quality of Derby’s food and drink scene.

“The judges will have a difficult, albeit enjoyable, time picking a winner. We have asked them to take a rounded view, looking for excellence in customer service, with knowledgeable staff who seems to care, appropriate ambience, as well as, of course, an excellent food and drink offer.”
